NYK Line Turkey agent visits Germany

In the last week of August, Mr. Burak Hitay, the commercial manager of the NYK Line agent in Turkey, Messrs. Catoni Maritime Agencies S.A. in Istanbul, visited Germany to promote information exchange with staff members of NYK Line Germany who deal with the container liner service between northern Europe and Turkey.

 

The “Emerald Express” (EMX) service started in April 2005 and shows very positive results; the trade volumes between Germany and Turkey grew substantially and transportation by container services have increased as well.

Besides his internal briefings Mr. Hitay had the opportunity to visit the container terminal CTB in Hamburg which is served by the EMX service. The port of Hamburg is as gateway port for cargo to and from the Scandinavian and Baltic regions.

To sharpen the focus on the ever increasing role of intermodal transportation in Germany, Mr. Hitay also visited the port of Duisburg. This inland terminal is used by NYK Line for traffics to the ports of Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Antwerp. Thanks to this “on site” visit, Mr. Hitay was able to understand the efficiency of container intermodal traffic in our region easily, which supports the shift from truck to ocean transport, even for short sea destinations such as Turkey.

The EMX service also offers a direct connection between the European North Continent and Portugal & Greece.
